A pair of Common Hawk Cuckoo entertained us with their melodious call on Feb 20, 2011 at our country home in Bauria. One of them with a prey on ground.

(delhibirdpix) The Commoners - # 139.01 - Brown-Headed Barbet (Megalaima zeylanica) - 2011-034

With rains yesterday early morning and wind since then having washed away the smog and fog, the skies were blue this morning - a perfect setting for birds that become active in Spring.

Had six Brown-headed Barbets on the silk tree (?) outside my house. By the time I managed to reach the roof to get a decent angle and half decent light, four flew and the other two remained and continued calling for a long time.

Here is one with broken upper mandible.

[BirdPhotoIndia] Black-Crowned Sparrow Lark

Another new bird ( the first being the Indian Bustard) at the Desert Nationa Park, Jaisalmer. 25-26Feb'11.
Seen in a pair and one in which the crown looks rather dark brown - perhaps it's the play of light. This bird has a very sweet voice and demonstrated it while sitting on the barbed wire.
Sorry to have exceed the kb limit by a bit.

What a grand experience to see the Indian Bustard at the Desert National Park, Jaisalmer on 25th and 26th February'11. On the two days I visited the park, the second day yielded four sightings - once in a pair and the other times single birds.
These shots are of the bird seen the first time on 25th Feb.
