A lovely forest owl that eluded me for a long time. While the books don't call it out, I think these are muntain birds. The adult of the southern race has a nice almost orange facial disc that is unbarred. The Himalayan version is bigger with a darker and heavily barred disc. The juvenile (which this parent seems to be protecting!) retains a white head for many months. Eldhose had tracked this family in a pepper and cardamon estate near Munnar.
