(delhibirdpix) Winter Wren

Hi All,

A mouse like something crosses over, and I am stalled in my tracks. The sudden spotting of the Winter Wren managed to surprise me. A few clicks, it's a juvenile--unbelievably, soon there is one more juvenile. Now they are being noisy--wings flicker--the tone changes from a quarrel to begging for food--add another Wren--an adult appears out of nowhere--normally you don't see a single Wren even after a wait for hours, here you have a full family. The adult watches the gape of the juvenile intently--if food was passed, it happened too fast--they seem to crawl about the boulders much like the dexterity of a sticky lizard--all had an affinity to large boulders, which are a plenty in Bhojbasa. They disappeared as they came, but I kept hearing them.

Winter Wren, Troglodytes troglodytes on 28Jun2011, near Bhojbasa (~3800 mtr, between Gangotri and Gaumukh), Uttarakhand, India. The Wrens were seen and mostly heard in many places about the trail from Bhojbasa to Gaumukh.
