Nicitating memrane is present in most of the animals except primates, its function is like eyelids to clean and moisten the eyes..sharing some of the potraits of birds with nicitating membrane visible. Just some documenting type shots.
Here is River tern, photographed at Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary near Mysore in Decemeber 2011.
