(delhibirdpix) Whoopers Swan, female under-wing pattern, Pong Lake, Himachal Pradesh, India

Species :  Whoopers Swan - Cygnus cygnus - Adult Female

Date 10th Feb. 2013

Location : Pong Dam Lake, Himachal Pradesh, India

Status Least Concern.

Remarks :We visited the area where a pair of Whooper Swans was sighted on the Pong Dam Bird-count day. These vagrants were earlier recorded by General Osborne at Talwara in 1900 which is in close proximity. The birds were sighted early morning in the shallow waters of the Dehar Khad in the company of Northern Pintails (Anas acuta) and Northern Shovelers (Anas clypeata).  An approaching fishing boat brought them to the shore where they stood grooming, while the Anas took to flight.

Regards,

Gunjan
