Hi All,

The Purple heron doing itself good by nabbing this dragonfly on 9th July, 2011 at Kabini river backwaters, Kabini, Karnataka. The reservoir provides an brilliant place for some bird photography from boat, Dont forget the TC on the shore like i did and thus had to crop this image. Cropping this image however far easier then buying another TC.

While walking down to Bhimtal from Sattal birding lodge, I came across a clearing on the left with a lot of leaf litter where a good number of thrushes foraged, mostly Tickell's along with one or two dark-throated. Here are the male and female Tickell's thrushes. 11 April 2011, near Bhimtal.

see the diff.between legs and bill.br.adult has reddish yellow legs and dark pink bill while juv.has assumed breeding feathers of back chest and head but bill as well as legs are light yellow.

pictures are of same day.so i think these are juv. and adult br little egret.

(delhibirdpix) Rajarhat birds-1

Today morning atlast I visited the wetlands of Rajarhat in Kolkata. The main purpose was spot the Pheasant-tailed Jacanas and the Ashy-crowned Finch larks...which were in my wishlist for a long time.

Luckily I got both the birds within my one hour birding time.

I reached the exact location around 8a.m, ....asking my birding friends. The heat was intense even in the morning. So i cudnt stay at the spot for long.

Large flocks of the Ashy-crowned Finch larks were found flying here n there in the open fields. Sharing two shots of male bird.

Its a Lifer for me. Wud share pics of the female very soon.

My special thanks to Soma Jha and Arka Sarkar for giving me the directions to reach these wetlands.

today morning i visited the marshes of Rajarhat with the sole motive of spotting the Pheasant-tailed Jacanas.

Posting a distant shot of the Jacana and another bird most probably a pipit.

Wud appreciate an ID of the second bird....

I hv to visit this place again to get better shots of the Pheasant-tailed Jacanas...
