(delhibirdpix) New Wetland at GREATER NOIDA - Hindustan Times Story

Following up of the Sunday's Report, Hindustan Times has followed up with the

Officials, who have promised action and as you would read they have 'discovered 26 acres

of wetland in Revenue Records. 

It is possible this might be Narenda Modi effect who looks or makes some body look

at the complaints to his office. I had written detailed and extensive letters (with all kinds

of photographs etc) to Secretary-MOEF and Chief Secretary - Uttar Pradesh and copied to the PM.

Hindustan Times has done a special and is available at http://paper.hindustantimes.com/epaper/viewer.aspx

A screen capture is attached.

Be prepared to help me save this area.

[BirdPhotoIndia] Eurasian Jackdaw juv

An unrelenting juvenile (left) that kept chasing its parent all over for something to eat.

Incidentally the species name of the Jackdaw refers to 'eating' as we colloquially know it, 'eat money' after a Greek legend of Arne who betrayed her country for gold. For which she was punished and turned into a Jackdaw. The ancients had observed the habits of the Jackdaw, which like most crows is attracted to shiny things and 'steals' them and woven it into a story.

(delhibirdpix) Jacobin's Cuckoo -A Happy Ending !

On 16^th Sept. 2014 while returning after lunch suddenly something collided with my car’s bumper within JNU campus. I thought may be some stone ? I continued my drive as a student on Bike was just behind me .I drove nearly 100 meters but Biker stopped .I also stopped & looked from rear view mirror out of curiosity to know what went wrong. I saw a bird in stress on road which probably might have hit by my car’s bumper. I took U turn and reached to the spot and realized OMG ! it was a baby Pied Crested Cuckoo met with an  accident, and that too with my car ? it was in a traumatic shock and was gasping. I picked it and returned home with it. Gave water through dropper, examined for external injury. Kept it under observation in a cage in a well ventilated place .As usual I requested my wife and daughter to keep a watch on it and inform me in case of emergency. At 6.00 p.m. when I returned home ,bird  was out of shock and stress. I fed it meshed and water soaked beans( Protein Rich Diet) and took it’s indoor flight trial which it passed with flying colors. By evening it had started trusting me and was comfortable with me. I brought it out in open .It observed surroundings for 3-4 minutes and went to its own world. It was really a very happy ending .

(delhibirdpix) Migratory & Resident Egyptian Vultures-NCR

Dear friends for last many years I have been doing study on Southern Ridge of Delhi and every day comes with  new surprises for  me. Though both the species and sub-species of this 'Endangered Egyptian Vulture' are not new to me and of course for all of you but need some corrections. The one with 'Dark Grey Bill' is a migratory (Winter) is a rare sight in NCR ( Also mentioned in the Atlas of Delhi-NCR birds)  which we sighted and photographed on 27th Sept. in the outskirts of Bhatti Mines.Whereas the other one with 'Pale Yellow Bill' is a resident . I have tried my best to scan all the previous records from the group to see  last sighting of N.percnopterus percnopterus but could not see a single photo of it (N.p.percnopterus) but I got N.percnopterus ginginianus (Pale Yellow Bill) only .I request all the bird photogrphers to kindly share photo of the N.percnopterus perconpterus from NCR if you have one.
