(delhibirdpix) Yellow-wattled Lapwing (Vanellus malabaricus) - Adult and Immature

Observed the adults raise the chick until it was big enough to fly, which I see it do often now :-) Raised amidst debris and mud in a site being taken up by mindless construction.

(delhibirdpix) Large Cuckooshrike (Coracina macei)

Becomes fairly common and more conspicuous during the monsoons (and a month before and after). Their call is always a give away and they are easily identifiable in their flight as well. I have mostly noticed that they tend to stick to canopies, however. Lately, have been seeing them in pairs, and even in groups of three to four.

On 5th September, however, I had a fairly distant sighting of a group of a total of 14 individuals gathered on a single Eucalyptus, which they seem to be fond of. I had never seem them in such numbers before.

This image is from the same day (5.9.2010) but not of the same sighting.

(delhibirdpix) Grey-breasted Prinia (Prinia hodgsonii)

The commonest Prinia in the region, especially in the areas with more natural vegetation (the only other Prinia I have recorded is the Ashy). This one was actively singing in the middle of a swarm of some insects late evening after 6 PM on 28 September 2010.

Question: All the birds I have seen here, in any month of the year, always seem to "retain" the breeding plumage and sing throughout the year as well. Does this have something to do with race variations? Or do they just breed throughout the year and I just don't see the non-breeding, more skulking individuals?

sharing the pic of a Magpie Robin that stays near my house... and spends its time catching insects in my garden and damp places of the backyard. Sometimes it will sing loudly at dawn......perched on the wire or post. Its melodious notes are worth-listening.

Do you think I qualify as a Bird of the Season
or .... ....... .....? Often asked - where do I breed ?

I am described as a Common Resident Breeder but am in fact Scarce with
just about 30 + Records of sighting spread through out India with a
lot more concentration in Terai. Reported to Breed in Pakistan and
Nepal, particularly Nepal Terai where good numbers have been spotted,
marking territory and therefore Breeding. A Bird - Endemic to Indian
Sub-Continent (reported extinct from Bangladesh).

I am Bristled Grassbird - BORN at one of favourite birding haunts,
Dadri Wetlands (now slowy getting lost to development) of Delhi Birders.

At least now I have been seen and photographed and also recorded on
Video. Essentially resemble an Adult but underparts are washed yellow
and the beak being almost yellow.

1st October 2010 at Dibrugarh, Assam. These birds are extremely wary now
giving warning calls at first sight. However as the season progresses they
get used to humans and are quite approachable.

[BirdPhotoIndia] Flycatcher?

Hello all,

The monsoon rains seem to have finally bid goodbye to the hills and
we are seeing some brilliant sunshine since the last few days. Saw
this bird at a distance in the garden today morning. I don't think I
had seen it before. Is it an Asian Brown Flycatcher? Would appreciate
ID help. Not the best pictures but hopefully enough clarity for ID
