| Hi.. Please find below the BBD Trip Report of our team covering the Panchalingeswar, Nilgiri & Kuldiha WLS area of District Balasore. Odisha along with an image of the White-Rumped Shama which practically ruled all over the sanctuary throughout the day. Poaching was found to be apparently rampant in Odisha sanctuaries of late including the one that our team visited. We could manage to collect a few cuttings from the local vernacular daily 'The Samaja' depicting such episodes and interviewing local people did not emit any ray of hope either. We are preparing a separate report on this and can share the same with anybody interested as soon as it is ready. Nevertheless, our team had a wonderful field day out there courtesy BBD and we would like to extend our heartiest thanks to the BBD organizers at Delhi and Mr. Bikram Grewal in particular. Regards. On behalf of the BBD Team - Balasore District, Odisha Caesar Sen Team Leader Big Bird Day TRIP REPORT Team BBD / Balasore District, Odisha Team Leader : Caesar Sen. Other members : Manoranjan Das, S.N.Chaudhuri & T.K.Das. Area covered : Panchalingeswar Area, Nilgiri & Kuldiha WLS Date : 24th February, 2013 Birding Time : 0600 hrs to 1730 hrs Our team had a wonderful day of birding at Panchalingeswar, Nilgiri and Kuldiha WLS in the district of Balasore, Odisha courtesy Big Bird Day, 2013 and our heartiest thank goes to its organizers at Delhi, Mr. Bikram Grewal in particular. We forward the list of birds seen by our team on a rather orthodox count ,which, we hope, may give some picture of the bird presence in the area visited by us. But, what is of more importance.. the absence of many commoners in the list, in spite of our best efforts, clearly does not depict a bright portrait for the future. We did not notice a single House Sparrow during the day irrespective of travelling almost 14 km through three small towns. Neither did we see any Black Kites. Regards. Caesar Sen.
