The Kalij Pheasant at Chaffi was an amazing sight. Thanks to Anshul Jain, Vinay and Narsimha Kumar that we were able to see the spectacular behaviour of the kalij family. The Mom and Pop with 6 chick in tow would follow fixed routine. We reached the spot at 1445 hrs and waited, to watch the Kalij family to cross the road, to get to the forest. With cameras set we waited. Just past 1504 hrs the male kalij head poped up on the side of the road. Slowly moving into full view. The road has a fair amount of traffic. It looked right and then left making sure there was no car approaching-it charged across the road running like the flying sikh and was gone in less than 3 sec. across the road and into the forest- A few seconds later the female head poped up. She stood there with only the head and neck visible for more than 30 sec watching to see that the road is clear. Then steps up in full view. A few sec later two chicks take off from the back and fly across the road. Followed by two more and then two more. All the chicks fly across the road. The female then watched the road and then walks/flies across the road to join the waiting family at the edge of the forest.  The local villagers feed grain to the Kalij. The next stage was to wait and watch the Kalij family come to the back yard of the houses to feed.  There seems to be no fear of the local people with the ladies of the house working quite close.  This time the female lead the chicks with the male following. They fead and are lead back to the forest by the male.

A remarkable experience
