I found both locustellas now wintering in Kolkata tough to photograph. It took me an hour to figure out this birds movement pattern before I could manage a shot.
Both the Lanceolated and the Rusty-rumped spend most of the time hidden in grass (Lanceolated) and hyacinth (Rusty-rumped). This Rusty-rumped left the hyacinth and perched in the reed bed for a few seconds every half hour (or so) to check the surroundings and for a quick preen. Once I figured that out, the challenge was to find any relatively uncluttered portion of the perching area to have any chance of making an image. Enjoyed it!
Joka, Kolkata, a.m. today.
Cheers!
Sumit
