(delhibirdpix) Asian Drongo Cuckoo

A couple of powerful thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday made me quite optimistic about the birding on Sunday. Bad weather always brings some of the birds from the Ghats into the Manipal region (which is wedged in between the coastal plains and the hills), and I was not disappointed. A loose flock of about 25-30 Bronzed Drongos, Malabar Parakeets, a very distant but showy Grey Junglefowl (a species I have assumed to be hearing, and trying to track down for a long time), Malabar Pied Hornbills, Large + Black-headed Cuckooshrikes (we normally get the latter), etc all showed up.

Here's a couple of images of the Asian Drongo Cuckoo - 2 different individuals - taken on Sunday (25.04.2010) in Manipal (udupi district), Karnataka. All in all, 3 different birds were seen, twice caught in a flock comprising of Bronzed, Racket-tailed Drongos.

There is nothing in which the birds differ more from man than the way in which they can build and yet leave a landscape as it was before.
