Notes:

There is always a fascination on the origin of some bird names…. One amongst them are "Tits". This name was coined for the birds in the year 1325 to recognize some small birds found in the region and came from the English word "Tit" or Icelandish "titr" meaning "Small".  Later on this name (Tit) became appendage to the common names of some species from several families like Paridae, Aegithalidae, Sylviidae,  Remizidae etc.

This Black-throated Tit belongs to the family Aegithalidae, also known as "long-tailed Tits or Bush Tits" of which there are 13 species in the world. All are characterized by grey or brown plumage above and with striking black & white facial markings. They are very gregarious (In flocks), sometimes in upto 40 individuals together. Infact, all the members of the family Aegithalidae are social. They are very vocal and this trait is very important for such social species, as the flock members have to remain in contact constantly when they are on move. Such communication reaches an excited crescendo when the group crosses an open area. I am sure, those who know this species will agree.
