(delhibirdpix) The Commoners - # 116.01 - Brown Crake (Amaurornis akool) - 2010-107

Most of us are definitely going to miss Dadri Wetlands once it is
finally gone as a Birding Destination.

Just as it dies gradually, here is another one that delighted being my
first sighting of the Hatchlings of Brown Crake. I label these as
Hatchlings based on the observation that these were finding it
difficult to stand up and walk. Saw a couple with one parent first
and then a little while later and a little distance away found another
three with both the parents.

Being a bit far (even for a 800mm Cannon), initially the chicks were
dismissed as Waterhen's but then the 'Grey' (or shall I label these as
white) Cells kicked in to say, 'no these are not chicks of Waterhen'.
The Cells did not have to work harder since the Parent showed up soon
enough to resolve the issue.

Would be interested in knowing if anyone else has sighted the chicks
at Dadri or elsewhere. This would confirm my ID as these chicks look
very similar to those of a Waterhen.

Enjoy.
