The White-browed Fulvetta is a species placed in the family Sylviidae. However like the other typical fulvettas, it was long included in the Timaliidae genus Alcippe. But these are actually quite closely related to the typical warblers and therefore a member of the family Sylviidae.
The genus Fulvetta has been resurrected to address the polyphyly of Alcippe. It now contains 8 species found in evergreen forests of south-east Asia, each of them with a simple song, short rectal bristles and a long hind claw. The last feature is an adaptation, as these tit-like species often hang upside down when foraging. All members of the genus, including the White-browed Fulvetta, have contrasting panels or flashes to the folded remiges. (Source: HBW, Vol 12)
The systematics of Old World babblers was always confusing & argued. During much of the 20th century, the family was used as a "wastebin taxon" for numerous hard-to-place Old World songbirds. Infact, Ernst Hartert (The famous German ornithologist) summarized half-jokingly that, in the passerines "What one can't place systematically is considered an Old World babbler".
This species is quite tame and inquisitive, but very restless and keeps to the low bushes and undergrowth. It is partial to the sub-alpine bamboo and rhododendron forests and usually forages in small flocks. Just a record shot of the bird…..
