(delhibirdpix) 16th may sultanpur flats and around the area

Hi all --today we decided that instead of going into the Sanctuary, we shall do Sultanpur flats and environs - we reached our destination around 5.30 am -- saw the black shouldered kites, -- we counted 82-87 comb ducks by the time we left there were 102 of them -zitting cisticolas preening themseves -
barred button quail scurrying through the grass - a lifer for me-- soo small -- it was ided by Sunita
-pipits-- plain prinias flitting across from reed to reed - larks whirring above and then landing--- saw the ever elusive black francolin twice -- and flocks of grey francolin running across the road and into the fields --

Entered the Flats saw the red necked falcons -- two of them -
the yellow wattled lapwings and the red wattled lapwings warning all and sundry of our arrival --ashy crowned sparrow lark , crested larks and oriental skylarks all very active-- an indian courser flew past and whlie walking down we saw more coursers - 7 plus 1 juvenile-- red collared doves -- eurasian thick knees squatting flat on the ground barely visible with their big yellow eyes shining and looking at us

we were lucky to see the chestnut bellied sand grouse at around 9.30 am come near the water body drank some water and then dipped itself into the water and flew away to its chicks -- i suppose -- by that time the sun was up and it was getting very warm with hot winds blowing -- we decided to call it a day and drove back home
cheers -- chandrima
