(delhibirdpix) Indian Nightjar (Caprimulgus asiaticus)

So when I got to know that my previous nightjar was a Savanna and not Indian (which was great, I have since been tracking down Savanna calls as well - a much too feeble and difficult to hear version to be predominant amongst the calls of the Indian Nightjar and Spotted Owlets), I thought it would be a pity if I returned home for the summer without capturing on camera the nightjar whose calls I had actually been hearing.

So last evening, after a lot of careful searching around - I finally got to see one confidently camouflaged a few meters away from me.

Here's an image of one without the flash on.

Taken on 18th May 2010 at 6:20 PM in Manipal, Karnataka.

Cheers!
Ramit
