Cotton Pygmy Goose on 2nd June 2010 at Dibrugarh, Assam. Once again the rains have kept me cooped up indoors. However this morning I was pleasantly surprised to see a pair of Cotton Pygmy Goose (or is it Geese?) hovering above our lawns. They tried to settle in on a tree near our bungalow but were chased away by the Indian Rollers who have finally displaced the Spotted Owlets from their nest. They finally settled on a the high branches of an eucalyptus tree a little further away. This is a photo of one of the pair. Light is poor and hence the photo is not very clear.
I have seen this birds on trees last year too around the same time. I think they just follow the Lesser Whistling Ducks and precede the monsoon. The monsoon has become a joke here as we have had rains since March. I believe that they nest in trees but haven’t seen any nests here in the Tea Estate. I think ,like the Lesser Whistling Ducks, they move to trees near water bodies for nesting.
