(delhibirdpix) White-tailed Robin – Male

Common Name : White-tailed Robin – Male

Scientific name: Myiomela leucura leucura

Status in the Region: Un-common & Resident (?)

Place: Pemayangtse Monastery environs, Near Pelling, Western Sikkim,  alt.approx: 2200 mts

Site Habitat: Tropical humid evergreen Broadleaved Forest with dense secondary undergrowth…. This was close to the monastery.

Date:  1st April, 2010

Equipment: Canon 40 D with Canon 100-400 mm IS lens

Notes:

Just a couple of record (low Image Quality) shots as I haven't seen many (any) images of this species from India.

This bird was an un-expected surprise while observing a Snowy-browed flycatcher. The male was seen rummaging on a dumping patch along with Grey-winged Blackbirds. It exhibited an extremely shy behavior and would often take cover at the slightest alarm, all the way fanning its tail to show up its contrasting white lines on the tail. The female was also seen later nearby.
