[BirdPhotoIndia] The Brood Parasite

Hi
heres a pic of a Koel taken from my balcony.
The Koel like many other members of the Cuckoo family is a "brood parasite", because it lays its eggs in the nest of crow. Its eggs look so similar in patterns to those of the crow, that the parent crows cannot distinguish them. And the crow feeds the cuckoo fledgeling, and takes care of it till it grows up and finally flies away. Here the crow is considered as the host.
It has been found that different species of cuckoos sometimes have different hosts.
Pied crested cuckoos lays eggs in the nest of babblers, for instance.

Shantanu : )
