[BirdPhotoIndia] Masked Booby (Sula dactylatra) at Juhu, Mumbai

Masked Booby (Sula dactylatra) at Juhu, Mumbai

Pankaj Jadhav, my friend; found a Masked Booby (Sula dactylatra), misidentified as Abbott's Booby by him then with pictures from internet, at Juhu beach in Mumbai last week. As he said, it wasn't injured but couldn't fly and was mocked by crows. He took the bird to Veterinary College, Parel for treatment, but he came to know that the bird had died after two days; when Pankaj went there to see the progress.

The bird was later identified as Masked Booby when Pankaj told me about it and sent me some pictures. Some of these birds stray towards the Mumbai shores due to strong monsoon winds at this time of the year, probably exhausted tackling them and are mocked by crows. However this is nice record and it is extremely sad that the bird died, but I couldn't know the exact reason of it's death except the vet told my friend that the bird had lots of urea in it's excreta which was a bad sign. Uric acid they meant perhaps. Additionally, they refused to give the dead bird back as he intended to give it to BNHS for collection, saying they had to give it to BMC..??

Thanks to Pankaj for the pic. Forwarding the same with his permission. It's from cellphone and not of great quality. Only for record purposes.
