Hello all,
Yesterday I posted a similar picture to the attached (bpi-1) in the Indian Nature Watch Forum under the name of Chestnsut-bellied Nuthatch. Two members opined that it might be a White-tailed Nuthatch with one of then pointing out absence of fringe markings on undertail-coverts. So after a process of going through books and internet images and descriptions, I tend to agree and probably the other image of the same bird attached (bpi-.) will put matters to rest as it also shows the white at base of tail. I made these pictures in the third week of May in Darjeeling in the forest area behind the Tourist Lodge and below the Mahal Mandir. If it is a White-tailed Nuthatch then it is a first time for me. Experts please confirm.
Thank you.
Ganesh
