5 of us birded at MJ KG Wetlands yesterday and below are the highlights.
In the fields, spotting of 8 Sarus cranes sent wild screams within the group. We spent good 10 - 15 mins watching, photographing, filming (yes all these forms were used) the beautiful birds oblivious to our presence. There was 1 immature in the group, pointed out by WingCo. Anand insisted on waiting to watch the Sarus dance and Voila they did oblige although only momentarily. Full Fledged dance sequence was not in the offering within our time constraints. Another pair of Sarus flew in and joined the gang taking the total to 10. Spotted 3 more during return journey as well.
Several Black-Breasted Weavers were busy making nests. Also spotted an immature Chestnut-Shouldred Petronia, Baya Weavers, a lone Black Kite on the ground, Plain martins, Wire-Tailed swallows in fields. In the village spotted Black and Pied Kingfishers, Pheasant-Tailed Jacanas, Grey and several Pond Herons, Koels, unconfirmed Tree pipit and like all Haryana villages, many pea fowls.
Overall a very pleasant birding experience combined as usual with a hearty breakfast.
Picture of the Kite on ground taken with my little camera is attached below.
Happy weekend birding to all
