I had been keeping you posted from time to time. The last news was
the grant by Supreme Court of Stay on Construction in October 2009 and
subsequently in April, Supreme Court has asked 'MINISTRY OF
ENVIRONMENT & FOREST' (MOEF) TO STUDY THE IMPACT ON OBP OF FELLING OF
6000 + TREES AND THE CONSTRUCTION".
As is the wont of MOEF, it did not do the job itself or got it done
under its supervision. MOEF let NOIDA get the reports prepared. As
was expected, these report are 'BIASED" to my mind. The reports do
accept that the green buffer etc existed, were used by the birds for
feeding, breeding and so on but then conclude that there are steps
that can be take to 'ameliorate' these adverse impacts.
I have with me copies of reports prepared for NOIDA by Salim Ali
Centre for Ornithology & Natural History (SACON) with Nagarjuna
Agricultural University, Hyderabad on the one hand and Wildlife
Institute of India, Dehradun on the other hand.
I would like this to be studied and commented upon by you all and then
summarize your comments so as to help our Advocate to argue the case
in Supreme Court on Friday, 30th July. I need to get your comments -
particularly on the wrong conclusions drawn by both or on the
conclusion that should have been there but the 'Expert Bodies' are
silent about.
Please also forward this to Experts whom you know and who can comment
and help us save OBP.
