Sitting atop the watch tower at Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary in the blistering afternoon heat, we watched a parade of birds and mammals out to partake a hearty meal courtesy of the forest department, the most entertaining of which were a trio of jungle bush quails - 1 female and 2 males - scurrying about in their typical fashion. After some time we found the two males chasing each other round and round, back and forth across the rocks, while the female watched from the sidelines. This continued for over half an hour, with several confrontations and collisions between the suitors, until finally a victor emerged from the battle and promptly started chasing the female, while the loser retreated into the background. Here is a shot of the males hot-footing across the rocks.
