Hi
sharing two more pics of my first Brown shrike (Lanius cristatus) of the year.
After a long journey from the Himalayas, this handsome migrant has finally reached its winter destination Kolkata. It will stay here till mid-April.
I was peering through my window today morning, when suddenly i found this Brown Shrike perched on a dry palm stick in the meadow.
From the exposed perch, it was keeping a sharp lookout for its prey (insects and lizards), and also turning its head (as seen in pics) in different directions.
With its large head and the heavy hooked bill, this bird really looks like a miniature falcon.
Wish a warm welcome to Mr.Shrike....
