(delhibirdpix) Adopt a nestbox

Hi

Our adopt a nestbox scheme which we launched a few years ago was a
great success. We had put up over a hundred in Sultanpur National
Park, which saw nesting of Spotted Owlets, Parakeets, Mynas, Indian
Robin and Grey Hornbill in them. We also installed them in schools,
members balconies and gardens. Our nestboxes now need replacement and
we need to put up lots more. Besides we have a lot of members asking
for nest boxes.

Over the past few decades India has seen phenomenal economic growth
leading to change in architecture of buildings, cutting trees, loss of
urban green spaces on a large scale, changes in attitude and lifestyle
of people. Native forest and woodlands are replaced by homes, roads,
schools, and shopping centers and industrial complexes. Putting up a
nest box is an easy and economical way to increase nest sites for
cavity-nesting birds and to help them achieve nesting success.

Nest boxes are bird houses that are scientifically made for
cavity-nesting birds of different kinds. The size of the opening and
the dimensions of the box have been calculated to fit the size of the
bird and its nest. These nest boxes can be easily installed on walls,
balcony grills, trees, fences on poles or anywhere else. The only care
which has to be taken is that the nest box should be stable, should be
out of reach of cats and away from direct sunlight. Installing your
nest box near vegetation also aids young birds taking their first
flights as it gives them both physical support and good cover.

We along with Nature Forever Society have once again launched the
"adopt a nestbox". These are all made from recycled wood. We have 3
sizes of nestboxes and a feeder available. You could buy them as
Diwali gifts and have a green diwali. You could put them up in your
gardens, terraces, schools or you could bring them and we could put
them up in Sultanpur National Park.
