(delhibirdpix) The Commoners - # 48.02 - Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis) - 2010-258

Dadri Wetlands have always surprised. I had given up on the area a
year ago but then it has bounced back on the strength of good rains
this gone monsoon.

Wittingly or unwittingly, the greed of company parcelling a huge tract
and of all the residents around has also contributed. The area being
low lying, the Company need to fill up the area with earth to raise
the level. The residents of the area dug up the surrounding land
(hear it is owned by the government) and supplied the earth to the
Company and thus leaving deep ponds which are now filled to the brim
with water and home to thousands and thousands of waterfowl. What a
delight to watch "fluttering of ten thousand wings".

Yet another surprise on the fifteen or so of us who visited the area
on 31st October - A Leucistic of Albino Common Myna. My first
sighting of such a bird in the wilds. Mad another trip on 7th but did
not find it.

Here is a close up of the bird - Leucistic but then there are spots of
white coming in to the eyes and may be it turns Albino.

The Black-Necked Stork chicks have hatched - nice to see three of
these perched so high on top of a pylon.

Cheers.
