(delhibirdpix) Re: Id Please!!!

Hello All,
Thanks for your response.
Here is second photo of the same bird.
There were plain prinias, jungle prinias, warblers galore at this place, all were chirping, so was difficult to judge based on call.
The size of this bird was definetely bigger than plain prinia.

pramod

The rather thick beak and stouter structure eliminates the Plain Prinia according to me....

However, the difference with Thick-billed Warbler is far too pronounced

1) Very long and thin tail v/s that of Thick-billed
2) Pinkish legs v/s fleshy / darkish of Thick-billed
3) Short primary projection v/s slightly longer and more pronounced in Thick-billed
4) Curved upper mandible along with blackish tipped lower mandible.... the Thick-billed has lower mandible pale without black-tip
5) Shows some supercillium v/s complete absence in Thick-billed
6) Overall warm Brown upperparts v/s Olive brown in Thick-billed
7) Rounded head pattern v/s a bit of a gradual slant head pattern of Thick-billed (Typical Reed warblers)

Seems to be Prinia sylvatica insignis  ssp. of Jungle Prinia

Compare these images of Jungle Prinia with Thick-billed Warbler

I may be wrong though... and open for corrections.

Cheers!!
Adesh

Interesting discussion on this one. I too would agree with Jungle
Prinia but am still a little confused as to why not plain.
