[BirdPhotoIndia] Two Indian endemics -- Tawny-bellied Babbler & Pied (Ground) Thrush | Nandi Hills | March 2011

Dear all-

I finally broke my jinx of birding locally by doing an hours birding this morning at Nandi Hills along with Shashank Dalvi and Vishnupriya. Nandi Hills (~50 km outside Bangalore) and adjacent to the new Bangalore International airport is a birding hotspot harboring residents and winter migrants. Several Himalayan residents winter here in this hillock of evergreen jungle (1500m).

The Pied Thrush is a winter visitor here. This is probably a second winter male. An adult is more 'pied' with a more distinct thick white supercilium.

The Tawny-bellied Babbler is a resident here and this South Indian race (albogularis) sports a white throat.

Cheers,
