[BirdPhotoIndia] Unusual Moulting

Hi,

While feather replacement in a staggered manner is the norm, occasionally birds do drop off their head feathers in one go. Usually seen in moulting time and with subadults. Ectoparasites may be another reason. However it should be expected that regrowth of fresh feathers would take place within weeks. Red-vented Bulbul, Chintamani Kar BS, southern Kolkata, 6.3.2011.
