[BirdPhotoIndia] Coal Tit | Singalila

Distant shot of a Coal tit Parus ater (possibly P. a. aemodius). Shot at Sandakphu, Singalila National Park, West Bengal, at an altitude of ~11,500 ft, on 25th April, 2011

This bird was near the top of my "must see" list for a while. Though not very rare (found all over the Eurasia and everywhere in high Himalayas east of Western Nepal), there are inexplicably very few pictures from India. In a stretch of a kilometer or so, five Coal Tits and about ten times as many Rufous Vented Tits were seen. The former always kept their distance, though the latter were not skittish. The fact that all of them were calling helped a lot in differentiating  the Coal Tits.
