[BirdPhotoIndia] Little Ringed Plover: Distraction Display-I. False Brooding

Common Name : Little Ringed Plover

Species Name : Charadrius dubius

Location : Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh

Date taken : 10.04.2011

Equipments : Nikon D90 + Nikkor 70-300mm AF VR Zoom

Special Remarks:

These are some records of "False Brood" Diversionary Display in a Little Ringed Plover. I saw the bird foraging near the shore for a while and then fly/run away after a few minutes, only to return to foraging again. After each forage it would run off towards the dry land and disappear quickly around/behind some bushes. I tried to follow the movements of the bird through my camera lens and found it squatting down from time to time, as if incubating eggs. Then after a few moments it would scurry off again and repeat its squatting action a short distance away, occasionally looking over its back .
