(delhibirdpix) Birding at CKBS today

Hi
visited CKBS today morning with birdwatcher Soma Jha and two other birder friends Anuradha Mitra and Kajol Dutta. There was a lot of bird-activity from 7AM, but we spotted mostly the common species. This is the breeding season of many species....so most of the birds were vocal.
Among the woodpeckers, the Streak-throated was found in plenty.
The Orange-headed Ground thrush was singing melodious songs perched on the branch of mango trees. The mournful call of the Paintive cuckoo was heard many times, but it was very diffiucult to locate the bird. It was probably perched on the topmost branch of a tree. The continuous mating call of the Common Hawk cuckoo resounded in the park as the temperature soared.
We also heard the loud call of the Serpent eagle. Last Sunday I spotted pair of Slaty-legged Crakes in the thickets near the dired up pod in the middle of the sanctuary. So we waited at that spot for a few minutes with high anticipation of getting the birds. But the crakes didnt turn up today.
White-rumped Munias were seen to take bath in the small pool of water near the office. But the Blue-winged leafbird eluded us today.

regards
Happy Birding
Shantanu.
