Notes:
The surprised look on this Brown Hawk Owl was due to a Monitor lizard that came too close for its comfort….. While on a game drive in Corbett National Park one afternoon we saw this bird when least expected (it is a nocturnal species). It was seen frantically mobbing a large monitor lizard on the ground. It was furious and was attacking the monitor as if possessed and cooled down only when she was out of sight. The size of the lizard was far bigger than the owl could even possibly hazard a meal out of it….. So why was it attacking so viciously?

It is quite possible that the lizard, which is notorious for stealing eggs from tree holes may have come quite close to where this owl was resting/nesting and this bird retaliated….. The whole scene lasted for some minutes and made us hold our breath.

In Nature you witness such Dramas so un-expectedly and so often that it keeps the thrill going. More-over such interpretation that follows (from your perspective and understanding) gives you an added zeal to explore more….
 Nature is indeed fascinating!!
