(delhibirdpix) The Migratory Non-passerines - # 7.02 - Black Bittern (Dupetor flavicollis) - 2011-147

Sunday morning was planned for Birding and Butterflying at Yamuna Bio-Diversity Park, North Delhi, India. Looked like the rain and thunderstorm on Saturday evening and running into early hours of the morning would ruin the outing.

It was easy for me to wake up in time as I was up anyway (actually had not been able to sleep) due primarily to the U.P.Electricity Department which switch off power soon as they see wind picking up speed or at the first sign of rain.

At the rendezvous point, we were seven and soon thereafter three others reached the YBP.

Highlights were the Young Purple Sunbird being fed by Dad - a Beetle, perhaps, being thrust right down the throat and then the flypasts by Black Bittern several times.

Other than these the birds species were hard to find - only a few species and the number was woefully low. Someone needs to find why the numbers are so woefully low.

Butterflies were outnumbering the birds.

Everyone enjoyed the pleasant morning and then the majority decided to enjoy the breakfast at Bille-Di-Hatti which was good and damn crowded as usual.

Cheers.
