(delhibirdpix) Changeable Hawk eagle sighting in CKBS

Hi

visited CKBS monday afternoon with a friend....after a long gap of three weeks. The vegetation was green and fresh after the heavy downpour in the last few days....and the canal at the edge of the park was overflowing. Some portions of the sanctuary was submerged under water.

bird activity was low.

We were walking along the forest trail when the loud chattering call of  group of babblers caught our attention. I was surprised to see a huge Changeable hawk eagle perched on the low branches of a tree. Our cameras were turned off at that moment. I was so excited to see this brilliant bird that I almost forgot to take shots. The legs were covered with feathers..... the long crest feathers visilbe....The majestic raptor flew away into the dense forest before we cud take a shot.

we returned near the gate and somehow managed to take few  long distance shots of yellow footed Green pigeons....gorging themselves with wild fruits.
I presume that the hawk eagle will stay in CKBS for  few more days....
So interested birders of Kolkata may visit CKBS as there is high possibility of getting  this lovely predator again.
They may be lucky to get a shot of the species....
I m posting a really bad shot of the hawk eagle spotted two years back during the rains in Shyamkhola near CKBS. I wud like to know the exact status of this bird in Kolkata from the experts.

regards
Shantanu....
