Dear friends,
This is another shot of the same Rosefinch posted earlier. I have lightened up the shadow part to bring out the true color and texture of the breast. By comparing all the field guides available with us and the photos posted in the web two species have been shortlisted for the ID;
1) Red-mantled Rosefinch and 2) Pink-browed Rosefinch. Having seen the bird in the field, two features have been noted which tilt the scale slightly in favour of the Red-mantled Rosefinch; one is the slightly bigger size of the bird than other Rosefinches and secondly its big stout bill.
But the Red-mantled have not been previously recorded in the Eastern Himalayas oe the Central Himalayas which creates the bigger confusion! Experts are requested to throw some light in the present context regarding the ID of the bird!
Regards
Biswapriya
