A few things make me think that this is a juvenile venturing out from its nest for the first time.
-- - I saw a parent with some grub waiting patiently for minutes on end near where I eventually reasoned the nest must be. After seeing the juvenile, I got the impression that the food, which would normally be offered to the young one in the nest, was being used to coax it out of the nest.
- Its flight was in short bursts and laborious/shaky, unlike the stronger flight of adults.
Experts, or others with experience of this common species, please comment. I could be wrong about the nest bit, and indeed about the whole juvenile bit, too :)
Thanks,
Abhishek.
