Hi
visited a new birding spot- the wetlands adjoining the large fishing lakes or Bheris of Shakharipota near Kalikapur (Kolkata)...today afternoon.
Spotted some nice meadow birds and wetland birds. Few common Snipes were hiding among the grass, and they flew away whenever I advanced closer to them. Common Sandpipers were spotted around the large lakes....some were seen flying over water.
Paddyfield Pipits were quite abundant in that area. Yellow Wagtails were busy searching for insects among the grass..
Black Drongoes were seen perched on the backs of grazing cattle.
A Spotted Dove resting on the ground gave good photo opportunity. This place is likely to provide a good habitat for migrants like Stonechats, Bluethroats, Harriers, etc in the winter months.
regards
Shantanu.
