Hello,

Here's a sequence of photos of this majestic creature taking off... it was a first timer for me at the moment and i was awestruck by this huge creature! When it sits, its not so huge, but the moment it opens its wings and takes off, its size nearly becomes three times and hence i couldnt fit the wings in the first photo... still it was wonderful moment for me..

The Barn Owl (Tyto alba Stertens) rescued by Dr Deepa Vanjani (Asst
Prof, Dept of English, Gujarati Science College, Indore) in the
Manoramaganj area of Indore today (31 Dec) morning. It has a fractured
leg. Deepa took good care of it for most of the day. It was handed
over to the Conservator of Forests in the evening and it will be taken
to the Ralamandal sanctuary of Indore and released in the wild after
its leg has healed.
I had given my camera for servicing. I made sure I picked it up before
we handed over the owl. And we were about to leave the Conservator of
Forests office when I remembered I had not clicked a pic of Deepa with
the bird. So I did that and now all of you can see this.

Brown-headed Gull & Whiskered Tern at Malancha-Sarberia area along Basanti Road in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal

on the last day of 2011. Birds' list resulted from almost a day's birding includes Waders like Spotted Redshanks, Common

Green Shanks, Marsh Sandpipers, Wood Sandpipers, Pacific Golden Plover (single), Little Ringed Plovers, Temminck's Stints

& Common Sandpipers spotted in the shallow fishery ponds. Common Coots, Gadwalls & Little Grebes added colour to the

list. Other birds like Grey Herons, Burn Swallows with Little & Intermediate Egrets appeared in between.

A flock of more than a 100 European Goldfinch were seen yesterday near Bhojnagar a birding hotspot near Chandigarh.

[BirdPhotoIndia] Wader ID help required

This picture was taken yesterday (30th Dec) at a wetland used for
commercial fishery to the east of Kolkata. A group of Little /
Red-necked Stints were found foraging on mud (I can't differentiate
the two in non-breeding). One bird looked slightly different. The
markings on the head and the slight downcurved bill looked
conspicuous. This was foraging on uneven ground around 50-60 meters
away, so I am not sure of its comparative size. Nothing more than the
attached record shot could be obtained.

Identification help will be appreciated.
