The population is more than 20000 birds. The flutter of wings when these take off and the calls have a magical quality that exhilarates the heart.
Sunday 4th Saturday 10th and 14th both produced the same beautiful displays, lasting almost over an hour (not so much on 4th), especially when the Raptors flew low. Lots and lots of Geese - both Greylag and Bar-Headed along with Teals, Pintails, Shovelers, Gadwals, Wigeons, Pochards as also the residents Combducks, Spot Bill Ducks, Egrets, Herons, Wader - large flocks of Ruffs and Godwits - have marked their territories. Quite a lot of water on the north-east side is dotted with waterfowl with Bar-Headed Geese ruling the area.
On 4th, the highlight was a Great Crested Grebe (a bit too far even for my Cannon). A Lifer for me as also a new addition to the Check-list of the area. Tries on 10th and 14th did not show up even though I tried finding a way to reach nearer the water area.
On 14th, the highlight was another new addition to the check-list of Dadri - a Pallid Harrier being harassed by Crows.
On the way, the Black-Necked Storks have successfully hatched three chicks second year running. Mother was found fending the Black-kites which probably had their eyes on the chicks.
Usual birds are all present - the three species of Kingfishers, Prinias, Weavers, Munias, Shrikes and some warblers.
On 14th saw a large number of Long-tailed Shrikes spread all over the area.
On the over-all, a pleasant experience every time one visits.
Here are a couple of Pallid Harrier images. (Please correct if I am not correct - I continue to be ID-Challenged)
Cheers.
