(delhibirdpix) Retrospective 2011

Wish You All A Very Happy &  A Prosperous New Year 2012! The bygone Year, 2011 was good as far as new , important & rare sighting of birds is  concerned despite habitat loss and degradation, (OBP,Dadri,Shankar Vihar, JNU) ,but  new  habitats like Bhatti Mines & Surajpur Bird Sanctuary were also enrolled   in the list of  hot birding destinations for  delhibirders . What a good  kick start for the beginning of the 'Decade of Biodiversity' when the world has  celebrated year   2011 as an 'International Year of Forests'.  As far as species sightings is  concerned  they were good enough like  Baikhal Teal on BBD, White Capped Pendulin Tit (OBP). Laggar Falcon , Painted Sandgrouse ,European Rollers ,Small Minivets ,Jungle & Barred Bush Quails (Bhatti Mines & Asola), Breeding & nesting of Bristle grass birds & Sarus (Surajpur) , nesting of Blacknecked Storks (Dadri & Sultanpur National Park) is  equally  important .  We can't rule out excellent sightings & breeding of Painted Snipes in Shankar Vihar New Delhi. Indian Pitta from Noida after 1984 What a fantastic Record.

Sighting of Leucistic birds is 2011 were  also good & surprised all of us specially Common Coot, Common Myna ,Black Kite,Shikra & One  Small Bird whose id is still awaited .3 Film screeings at PVR Plaza by Bedi brothers on the breeding of Barheaded goose,Crested Grebe & Snow Leopards on 5th June were real visual treat..

There were many actions & Re-Actions on mails which finally turned out  quite fruitfull . 3 Cheers to the 3 moderators( Nik ,Biks, & Ravi)   who took the initiative & started  the  illustrated talks ,which  were enriching at the same same time very informative .

Maximum trips were made  for Dadri Wetlands in NCR and Tal Chapper remained on top for raptor sightings, though Kishengarh ( Ajmer) attracted many birders from Delhi & Gujrat for Lesser Floricans in July & August (22 birds sighting) Pratapgarh (Raj)  also reported 2 L.Floricans

Among non bird sightings & records breeding of Striped Hyena was very exciting . 3 new species of snakes Saw Scaled Viper (Bhatti Mines), Shaw's Wolf Snake & Variegated Kukri (JNU) were equally important .

Over all good birding year 2011 is going to end in  few hours & let the new dawn of 2012 bring in more bird species for us to sight..

 'A VERY HAPPY & PROSPEROUS 2012 '

Happy Birding
