I am attaching a not so very great picture of this bird. More than the picture, the trouble this particular bird gave me ever since I came across it for the first time
three years ago in Itanagar, made the pursuit of its picture a worthwhile project.
This bird is more often heard than seen as those experienced birders who have had the good fortune of photographing this bird would testify. When I first heard it, I spent nearly 2 hours in thick undergrowth just to be able to see and identify it. When it came out just for a nanosecond, I could only see the yellow crown and black body on a tiny frame. So from the size and the distinctive yellow crown I could infer that it must be SB tesia. There was no question of photographing it. It normally remains in thick undergrowth where sunlight struggles to penetrate. Besides it is so active and shifts its position so quickly that any attempt at getting a decent picture is more often than not doomed. Given that I use a point and shoot camera the odds were heavily stacked against me.
The second time I got to see this bird was in Namdapha. That time too I saw it for just one second.
Today when I went to Itanagar Zoo, this bird was calling incessantly. I kept my camera ready with prearranged focus and after spending close to two hours following it in a merry-go-around I finally managed to get this picture for whatever it is worth. It was worth the every trouble that I had to undergo. Heavily cropped picture. Hence grainy and noisy.
