(delhibirdpix) Sociable Lapwing - Tal Chappar

Sociable Lapwing (Vanellus gregarius)
Tal Chappar Black Buck Sanctuary, Churu, Rajasthan
29th Nov, 2012

Remarks : 1st picture is to show the birds in their habitat while the 2nd one is of an individual from a group of 3. The birding groups before us had seen 4 individuals but when we saw, there were only 3 left. One of them had a broken leg that we heard was a result of close encounter with Red-necked Falcon. It's not hard to see why. All 3 birds were truly sociable and docile birds, barely bothered to conceal themselves at all. Never once yelling like their Red-wattled cousins. If you see the habitat picture, it's quite evident they are so easily visible, if not for their camouflaged colouration that seems to be their only saving grace. Enigmatic, graceful birds that I hope persist through their trying times.

Soma
