[BirdPhotoIndia] Yellow-breasted Bunting - female

Here is a female from a wintering flock of Yellow-breasted Buntings at Dankuni, 25 km NW of Kolkata, India. This was shot back in 6th Dec, 2012. The grassland (which is privately owned and intended to be used industrially) has been gradually destroyed and very few of the birds remain now.

If you don't relish the idea of having a bowl of soup made out of a Yellow-breasted Bunting, you should choose your restaurants carefully while at Guangzhou, China. Some reports say that they are the most traded animal in markets of Guangzhou (and there are quite a few), with 100,000 delivered to restaurants everyday in peak season!

One can understand why the bird is globally vulnerable!
