[BirdPhotoIndia] Big Bird Day 2013: Rangitnagar & Adjacent in S.Sikkim

Dear Sir,
Birding started well at Rangitnagar, South Sikkim at 06:30 am on 24.02.2013.
The day was partially cloudy, mild cold wind was blowing. A flock of few
common birds seen at the nearby Red Cotton tree and my day started. Our
Rangitnagar group constituted with three members, Shantanu Biswas,
Omprakash Hatua and me. It was very sad for our group that my two birder
friend was suffering from illness and they were unable to go out for
birding. Only Shantanu Biswas managed an hour or less at Rangitnagar and
add a few species nos in the attached checklist.
After spending a couple of hour at Rangitnagar, started for Satmile vill on
the way of Kewzing. Few important sightings from Rangitnagar are
Greater Yellownape,
Fire-breasted Flowerpecker, Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Common Green Magpie,
Asian Barred Owlet, Greater-necklaced Laughingthrush, Lesser Necklaced
Laughingthrush, White-crested Laughingthrush. Did not spent more time for
satmile and almost all sightings were from my car window and slowly headed
for Kewzing. Important sightings from Satmile are Grey-winged Blackbird, a
pair of Russet Sparrow and Rufous-gorgeted Flycatcher. One thing, I am very
sorry, for not to cover Ravangla, which I promise first, because at first
we decided to cover the places seperately and I had not enough time
for Ravangla. Though it was actually due to rain otherwise might be a
chance. Kewzing is a very nice birding spot in South Sikkim. Birded
well there but
at around 12:30 weather changed drastically and afterwords it was
started raining.
Few important sighting from Kewzing area are Golden Bush
Robin,Lemon-rumped Warbler, Large Niltava, Red-billed Leothrix,
Chestnut-crowned Warbler, Blue-winged
Minla, Red-tailed Minla, Brown-fronted Treecreeper, Mountain Bulbul,
White-tailed Nuthatch, Chestnut-crowned Laughingthrush. Returned to
Rangitnagar due to raining. After raining in the 2nd part of the day
it was not suitable for birding at
outside rather than waiting for birds from the window of my quarter at
Rangitnagar. At last I can say that it would be a larger checklist if
we visit the spots in our power station area for few confirmed water
related birds, but could not managed.
As a whole the day was very nice and I think every group of birders
birded well on that day at their related areas and wish the quick
recovery of health of our group members.

Regards,
Subhasis Roy
