We came across this flycatcher at Simlipal, busy bringing dry leaves to build its nest. It did look little bright on underparts for a Brown-breasted Flycatcher but in the field that appeared to be the only possibility, especially considering pinkish color to the tarsus. However, Praveen J. pointed out towards what was considered race 'vernayi' of Pale-chinned Flycatcher that is resident in eastern ghats and is now considered to be hybrids with Tickell's Blue Flycatcher. The bird did look very different from the standard Pale-chinned Flycatcher that one comes across in NE India.

After looking closely at Manoj's pictures and as well taking feedback from other experts, it has occurred to us that it NOT a Brown-breasted Flycatcher. It is either a Pale Chinned or a hybrid between Pale Chinned & Tickell's. Manoj will shortly share the pictures on this forum! Our apologies!I also missed an important detail on food! On the way back from Simlipal, we stopped at a roadside eatery; Jugganath Dhaba. The food was usual except a local sweet meat; Chenna Pauda. It looks like a cross between Caramel Custard X Sandesh X Milk Cake. But whatever it was, it was exceptional enough for us to get 1/2 kg each packed for folks at home. I am not sure, if this delicacy is available in Delhi. We had heard about the world famous "Ling raj Lassi" and thus made our way to this famous shop. The counter at the shop had > 100 glasses filled with Lassi. The taste is like a Rabdi and may be like Curd! By the time you decide what it tastes like, it is all over. Recommended for un usual taste! From: Atul Jain <atuljain1258@yahoo.in>

Our sincere thanks to Ramki, who guided us to get this rarity with lot of ease!Manoj & I spent 2 days in Simlipal Tiger Reserve and were able to get 27 Pale Capped Pigeons. The Pale Capped though is a misnomer! The cap is all "white" and is a statement and not an apology! The birding otherwise was not bad in a hot weather with temperature tipping the scale to 45C. The Simplipal is also prone to Cerebral Malaria (the symptoms occur after 3 days of mosquito bite and thus we are keeping our fingers crossed!!) and has some sporadic incidents of local trouble. The other highlights were Thick-billed Pigeon (Lifer), Rosy Minivet, Brown-breasted Flycatcher and smattering of Minivets (Scarlet & Small), Raptors (Sikra, Buzzards) & Mynas (Hill & Common)
