dear navjit,
the picture is taken near hindu temple with peoples all the time.
the bunch of thread is made of cotton threads (which can easily cut by any small juvenile bird)not of nylon net.in any case bunch not looking like net.(sending some full picture of it)i had never heard in our kutch about trapping of bird like this juvenile owlets.the old dry tree with lair(bakhol in gujarati language) is in a position that any one can reach or climb.

one can not spread or throw trapping net on a tree like this as per my mind.as easily fisherman can spread/throw net in plain surface water.
the bunch of thread may have carried by other bigger birds as tree looks suitable for nesting for many birds.or thrown by children(as many peoples came here at temple with children) or any other way.
share your knowledge about trapping of owls and owlets so that i and others can try to prevent this.
i dont think in any case bunch of thread is looks like for trapping.
sending full size bunch of thread which never looks like trapping net to me.picture can be enlarged

Dear Suman, This bunch of threads seems to be intertwined & looks like some kind of net to me ? Assuming this image was taken in the wilderness how could this reach there unless it was meant to trap birds ? These are my assumptions. There is a very lucrative & organised poaching of of Owls/ Owlets going on and depending on the species, a single bird is sold for thousands of rupees. ( a Bubo bubo can easily fetches Rs. 25,000) for Tantric Puja ( ritual slaughter) especially in the business communities of Ahmadabad, Surat etc. Your photograph is excellent.Only what it depicts to me is appalling ( trapping birds). I may be wrong. Did not want to offend you in any way but if you are, i am sorry. Always a fan of your images. Regards- Navjit --- On Tue, 4/6/13, jaysukh parekh <nisusuman@yahoo.co.in> wrote:
