[BirdPhotoIndia] The Sunbird and its Tongue

Bird:Purple  Sunbird(female)
Location:At Barasat,West Bengal,India
Date:20 July,2013

Remarks:The image of the female Purple Sunbird shows the bird with its tubular tongue extended. This might mean that the sunbird can probe flowers for nectaring whose length are longer than the bird's bill, since the tongue extends beyond the tip of the bill.
